Set the creativity level

Adjust the creativity of the language model with two parameters: Temperature and Top P. As a rule of thumb, higher values means more creativity.

Prerequisites
You have opened a Google document and selected Extensions > GPT for Sheets and Docs > Launch.
  1. In the GPT for Docs sidebar, click Model settings.

The field indicates the current creativity level of your model.
  2. Set Temperature from 0 to 1. You can refer to the following:

    • 0: precise, the model strictly follows the prompt
    • 0.5: neutral, the model is slightly creative
    • 1: creative, the model is very creative
  3. (Optional) Set Top P from 0 for a focused output to 1 for most creativity.

The default level is set to 1 by default.
note
  • Set Temperature to 1 when the value for Top P is lower than 1.
  • Set Top P to 1 if the value for Temperature is lower than 1.

You can now submit a prompt in the current document with the new creativity level. Once a prompt is submitted, the creativity level (Temperature and Top P) is saved along with all Model settings values, and is used for all prompts executed from Google documents.
